Looking back, the best days of my undergrad (and honestly, my life), have been spent at Friday Harbor Labs on San Juan Island. I am so grateful to have marine biology as a part of my life. This path has allowed me to visit many incredible places and to learn about a world full of animals that were previously a mystery to me. I have felt inspired by the people around me everyday that I have spent at the labs, and I have met people who I am proud to call my best friends. The people here are dedicated to understanding the marine world and are passionate in everything that they do. Honestly, I never feel more driven that I do when I am at the labs, and I have a running list of questions that I want to investigate about the ocean someday. FHL is a breath of fresh air away from a huge city like Seattle, and when I am in Seattle I find myself missing the beauty of nature that I am surrounded by at Friday Harbor Labs. Additionally, at UW Seattle I often feel like a small fish in a big pond, but at FHL I have a platform where my ideas can be heard and my questions can be answered. I did not expect to have as much fun completing courses for my undergrad as I have had at FHL, and I am so excited to be a marine biologist someday because I will spend my life exploring both the world and my passions.
